Writer and Proofreader
Hello! I'm Jemma, a freelance writer and proofreader with expertise in the non-profit sector.
Words have always had their way of captivating me. I was always that kid curled up with a good book, writing stories and occasionally... reading a dictionary. As I got older, my love of reading and writing never ceased. You can often find me curled up with a good book, highlighting profound passages of prose and finding inspiration in fictional worlds. I have always known that writing would feature in my life somewhere but I didn't know how to make it quite fit.

This is where working with charities comes in. Another near-constant in my life has been charity work. From fundraising with local charity Autism All Stars to organising events as president of our Interact Club and charity officer at my college's student union in my teenage years, I have never strayed too far from supporting causes close to my heart. After acquiring my masters degree in human rights law in 2018, I have continued to work with charities internationally and in the UK. I have been privileged to gain experience in areas such as education, development, refugee and outreach support.

Through these experiences, I have learnt that my attention to detail and 'thesaurus-like approach' (as one colleague described my style) would best lend itself to supporting charities achieve their fundraising and communications goals. I am currently supporting the Center of Education in Vietnam to do just this, offering proofreading and writing services to create press releases, fundraising bids, newsletters and handbooks.
